MSPB Grants OSC Stay Request for MRAP Whistleblower
Summary: Yesterday, the Merit Systems Protection Board granted the stay request from the Office of Special Counsel that prevents "MRAP" whistleblower (and GAP client) Franz Gayl from being indefinitely suspended without pay by the Marine Corps. OSC sought the 45-day stay in order to investigate the proposed suspension.
Gayl exposed that the Corps failed to provide American troops in Iraq with MRAPs – Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles – in a timely manner. In June of this year, shortly before leaving his position, former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates stated that the deployment of MRAPs saved "thousands of lives."
