Former Deputy Director of UK’s Leading Whistleblower Protection Authority Takes Helm at GAP

(WASHINGTON) – The Government Accountability Project is pleased to announce that Anna Myers, the former Deputy Director at Public Concern at Work – the UK’s leading authority on whistleblowing – has joined GAP’s team as Executive Director and CEO. Anna brings to GAP over 15 years of expert legal experience in the field of public interest whistleblowing and anti-corruption law.  She has helped hundreds of whistleblowers in the UK, and has worked with civil society and governments around the world on the  practical and legal implications of  whistleblower protection as a matter of democratic accountability.

“With Anna Myers as GAP’s new CEO, we are privileged to have a leader who is also one of the world’s experts on whistleblower law and policy,” Stated Louis Clark, President of GAP. “Now that whistleblowing is becoming an honorable and effective way for individuals, civil society groups and the media to hold institutions accountable, it is wonderful to have Anna on our team.”

Ms. Myers joins GAP at a very exciting time, coming in on the heels of a plethora of major accomplishments in 2014, including a victory at the Supreme Court in the case Department of Homeland Security v. MacLean, the launch of the new Climate Science & Policy Watch Program, and the passage of the first enforceable statutory whistleblower rights for government workers at intelligence agencies.

In response to taking the helm at the nation’s leading whistleblower protection organization, Ms. Myers stated:

“So much of what I and many others I have done to ensure public interest whistleblowing is understood and protected around the world builds on the pioneering work of GAP.  So it is a huge privilege and delight to be here at this exciting time, taking on the new challenges whistleblowers face in the information age. I join a staff of passionate, committed and highly expert people who work across professions, sectors and civil society. I can’t think of a better place to be at a better time; working to protect whistleblowers who speak up for all of us  and to ensure that the right change happens for the sake of the nation and its democratic values.”

The GAP Team is thrilled to welcome Anna Myers to Washington DC, and together, we look  forward to continuing GAP’s vital work in defending the brave whistleblowers who speak truth to power for the common good.
